Summary
Travellers' bow tents; family story of being storm-bound; attitudes towards Travellers.
There have recently [1972] been Travellers' bow tents at Cluny, belonging to Johnny Stewart. Belle Stewart talks about bow tents and barricades, the latter being a pair of tents with a central stove.
Belle's mother told her about being storm-bound in a tent at Lintrathen for five or six weeks one winter. People from the farm dug a way through the snow to them and kept the Travellers supplied with food. They washed with melted snow.
Belle comments on the way that Asian immigrants to Britain are treated as socially homogeneous, whereas Travellers are singled out from the rest of the British.
