Information about grazings committees.
Grazings committees have less to do now [1974] than in the past. In the contributor's youth the committee looked after the township bull, supplied by the Board of Agriculture in Inverness. They looked after subsidies and township roads, which are now under the supervision of the County Council. There was little regulation before the 1886 Crofters' Act. The first committee in Tiree was elected in 1912; the contributor has a record of it.
