Summary
A man and a ghost like a dog.
A man saw a dog-like creature on the road at night and struck it with a stick. He was tormented by the ghost from then on. One night it told him they would meet later. The man said they would not. He was woken in the night by an animal in distress and had to go out. He and the ghost fought. The man decided to go to America to be rid of it. While he was in Edinburgh getting ready to travel, he saw the ghost in a cart. It told him to return home and that he would not be bothered again. If the man had left it alone in the first place, he would not have had any trouble. He went home and never saw it again.
