Summary
The contributor talks about his life and piping.
The contributor was born in Grantown, near the Haughs of Cromdale. He was in the Gordon Highlanders, in the Scottish Horse, which was how he became piper to the Duke of Atholl.
Pibrochs he occasionally heard played included 'I Got a Kiss of the King's Hand' and 'My King has Landed in Moidart'. He tried, but never learned 'The Big Spree'. He was taught by Jimmy MacColl, from the MacCrimmon tradition of piping. He heard John MacDonald play many times, although he found him an inconsistent player. He never heard William MacLean from Kilcreggan play.
He will soon be 85.
