Summary - A poor boy marries an orphaned landlord's daughter after he warns her of attempts to poison her.
A poor boy fell in love with a landowner's daughter. The girl was orphaned and her uncle, a poor man, brought her up and took over the estate until she was 21. Her aunt resented her. The boy planned to set off to seek his fortune and went to tell the girl how he felt before leaving. It was the eve of her 21st birthday. He overheard her aunt persuade her uncle to poison her that night so they could inherit her wealth. The boy warned her and took her to his aunt's house. From the garden they saw the light in her window as her uncle went to kill her. The next day she wrote a letter to her uncle, saying how his conversation had been overheard, and ordered him and his family out of her house. She married the poor boy.
The contributor thinks he heard the story from his mother, who would have heard it at the Carinish Inn, where she worked.
