Relatives of Andrew Brown, the subject of the song 'The Murder of Captain Greig', still [1963] live in Stonehaven. Charlie Brown was the murderer's nephew. The cause of the murder was the captain's refusal to return to get more drink. After committing the murder Brown sailed the ketch from Montrose to Stonehaven. He was hanged at Montrose, in the last public execution in Scotland.
