Summary - The singer was born in Boston to honest parents, but he becomes a smuggler at the age of 23. He is caught, his parents cannot bail him out, and he is sentenced to seven years in Charlestown. His parents weep. He regrets the pain to his parents and vows to reform and settle down with the girl he loves. He warns his friends to reform before they are caught.
Willie Mathieson learned this from Leslie Pirie, at Old Man's Glass, c. 1910; Pirie was killed at Mons in 1914.
