Summary

Ronald Morrison talks about how good today's young pipers are.

Ronald Morrison in Glasgow talks about being a piping instructor. His pupils prefer canntaireachd to the chanter. Information is given about three top young pipers: Alasdair Gillies, Angus MacColl and Mike Cusack. He explains why he thinks there are more good young pipers today than ever. Some of them are ready to compete at the highest level. It's important to have supportive parents who like pipe music. Children on the mainland have more opportunities to learn the pipes, and many young pipers are keen on ceòl mòr. There are excellent pipers all over the world. He believes it's easier to teach pupils who have some knowledge of Gaelic. The large numbers of good players causes problems at competitions and must be addressed.
