Summary

The singer falls in love with a rambling beauty called Nancy. He proposes to her; she refuses, and complains to her father, who accuses the young man of ruining his daughter and has him thrown in prison. Nancy marries Prince Orai who treats her badly. The hero, now prospering, meets Nancy, who is in dire straits. He gives her money and reminds her how cruel she was. She weeps and warns young women not to lightly throw their love away.

Willie Mathieson learnt the song at the threshing, from Willie Mutch from Drakemyre.
