Certain people were thought to have the evil eye. The contributor was afraid of them as a child, and was told not to interfere with them. They were believed to put spells on cattle. Farm animals were made to pass through a fire to protect them from this. People with the evil eye were believed to be witches. The contributor had heard of a case where a cow was not giving milk and people thought the evil eye had been put on it.
