Summary

The illegal trapping of birds for export.

Peigi Màiri Nicholson from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds discusses how thieves in Glasgow, Paisley and Cumbernauld are trapping finches for sale abroad. Although they are not an endangered species, thousands are trapped, and the problem is getting worse. They are sold as pets in places like Malta, Spain, Italy and Greece. A finch can fetch up to £50, but many die in transit. Different agencies are working together to do something about it.
