Summary
The Horseman's Word initiation; a resulting court case.
When horsemen came to the chaff-house door [the Horseman's Word initiation], they were asked how they had come by the moon and stars. Lordie has seen a man beaten with a cart chain over the hand. At the ceremony which resulted in a court case 40 years ago, a man called John Miller who worked on his father's farm at Muiryhill went mad as the result of being made to feel a stirk [bullock] - as the Devil - and has been in Banff asylum ever since. Alec Finnie was among those fined.
