Summary
In this song the young lady meets a sailor, William, who asks why she is out alone. She tells him she is pining for her dark-eyed sailor who has been gone for two years. They had split her gold ring in two and she fears his half is at the bottom of the sea. William produces the other half of the ring and the lovers are reunited and marry.
Mr Hay had the song from a Banff sailor named Roy who shipped on a schooner.
