Summary
An orphan from Barra stowed away on a vessel bound for the Indies. The crew found him and left him there. Through his kindness he became wealthy, and bought an estate which grew woad. When the vessel returned, it was loaded up with woad. This is how woad first came to Scotland.

Recorded during cèilidh arranged by Mr Calum Maclean of the Irish Folklore Commission. Reporter's notes remark "The lighting failed during this story but it was resumed at the same point after we had moved into another building."
