Summary
An ice-shelf has broken away from a glacier in Antarctica.
An ice-shelf has broken away from a glacier in Antarctica. It is unusually big; twice the size of Lewis and Harris put together. It is uncertain which way the sea currents will take it. Kenneth MacDonald, a glaciologist, explains the calving of icebergs and is uncertain whether what has happened in Antarctica just now is related to global warming. There is ongoing research by the British Antarctic Survey.
