Summary
This waulking song is divided into two sections. In the first, a woman tells how she climbed high in the pass and saw her lover's ship coming. He was at the helm. There is a change of chorus at this point. In the section which follows, the composer curses the slanderers who said she was pregnant. If so, the father would not be "that beast", but "the brown-haired scholar of English" who rides a well-shod horse.
