Summary

Life history of Archie MacKechnie.

Eric Cregeen visited Archie Mackechnie, a retired gamekeeper, at Keils near Tayvallich. Archie was aged 73-4 and originally from Jura. At time of recording he lived alone in a small cottage without water or electricity. He is healthy apart from trembling hands. Furnishing of room in which conversation took place is described. Archie gave his views on grant and subsidy - thinks they make things too easy for folk. Compares livestock prices. Fifteen shillings a week was considered a good wage in his youth. Came to Argyll after father's death. Father also a gamekeeper. Archie worked as gamekeeper to Lord Astor and Henry Lithgow, both in Jura.
