Summary
Landowners good to the people of Jura.
Archie lived in a thatched house with an earth floor. The Laird put a concrete floor down. Archie spoke very highly of Lord Astor and Henry Lithgow as landlords improving houses and making modern conditions. When Lord Astor came he put wages up. The old laird, Campbell, said Lord Astor was spoiling people. Astor said he was concerned that they should be comfortable. Both he and Lithgow were good employers. Story about Lithgow telling Archie to buy horse to bring deer down from hills, and never mind the price.
