Duncan Williamson's schooldays in Furnace.
Duncan Williamson went to school in Furnace from age four to fourteen. There were 72 children in the school at that time, in four classes. There were two teachers and a schoolmaster. The schoolmaster taught the older children. On Wednesdays or Fridays if the teacher was busy Duncan was allowed to read any of the books in the school. This was how he got to know the story of the boy being turned into a bird.
