Norman MacDonald tells of the work of geologist James David Forbes. He initially studied law but a trip to the Italian Alps awoke in him an interest in geology. He was renowned for his work on the effect of glaciers on the earth's form. He was the first person to climb Sgùrr nan Gillean on the Isle of Skye.
