Summary - The drover who found the body of the landowner's son in a sheiling.

A boy stopped at a house overnight. The man of the house told him about the injuries that he sustained while in the Army, but said he went through greater danger before he joined, when he was a drover. He told him a tale of how he had gone into a sheiling on his way back from Falkirk one time and found a dead body. He took a gold watch from the corpse for identification, but saw murderers return for the body. The murderers noticed that the watch was missing while burying the body and realised that someone had seen the body. The drover tried to get shelter at a house, but he discovered that it belonged to the murderers and had to flee. He spent night hiding in a stream and was very weak in the morning. He was found and taken to the landowner's house. The watch was found in his pocket and the landowner recognised it as his son's watch. The landowner was going to shoot him, but was stopped by his wife. The drover told of the circumstances in which he had got the watch. He led a sergeant, six soldiers, and the landowner to house of the real murderers, who were made to exhume their victim's body and were hung.

The contributor heard this story from Alasdair Mòr.
