Summary

This song tells how the bravery of the Highlanders was praised by all, including royalty and nobility. The Highland soldiers came in full Highland dress, and playing the pipes. The Gaels had shown heroism in many battles and wars through the centuries. It is a pity that their numbers were small on the day of the gathering.

Item Notes

8 quatrains sung. The song was composed by Neil MacLeod (1843-1924). It was made for the Gaels who came to Edinburgh in 1881 for the gathering of the Scottish Volunteers.
