Summary

How Dòmhnall Dubh an Dròbhair got the better of the laird of Skeabost and bought a mare from him for £7.

More than 100 years ago [said in 1958] Dòmhnall Dubh an Dròbhair was a renowned horse trader. He could get the better of anyone.

Lachlan of Skeabost bought a lovely grey mare from the traveller for £25, having heard that Dòmhnall Dubh had offered £24 for it. Dòmhnall Dubh said people would say, "There goes the laird of Skeabost with the tinker's [sic] mare," when they saw him.

The laird of Skeabost sold the mare to Dòmhnall Dubh for £7 and asked why he wouldn't mind people saying such things about him. He replied that they would say he had the laird of Skeabost's mare.
