Summary
A girl who was upset about not being asked to a dance meets the Devil.
A girl was upset because nobody had asked her to that evening's dance. Her mother sent her to the well for water, where she met a man who spoke to her about the dance. She said she intended to go, supposing it was the Devil himself who escorted her. The man arranged to meet her at midnight and they shook hands. When she went inside, her mother noticed her hand was black where the man had touched it, and realising she had met the Devil, sent for the doctor. When the Devil came at midnight demanding what was his, the doctor cut off the girl's hand and threw it to him.
