Summary

Mr MacGregor describes wedding customs current in the Tomintoul area when he was young.

Penny weddings were before Mr MacGregor's time. When he was a child the best man in a wedding party would throw pennies to the schoolchildren. After the wedding there would be a housewarming. He knows of the custom of stealing the bride: a bride was stolen locally and carried through the river. He remembers the feet-washings and the sore heads the morning after. He also remembers blackening the feet of the bride the night before the wedding. Whisky was always drunk at weddings.
