Summary

Donnchadh Bàn and his desire to have a goat's horn as a sgian dubh handle.

The poet Donnchadh Ban often went on walks in Glen Orchy and he would stay with a shepherd by the name of Nicolson. Donnchadh Bàn would ask for the horn of a wild goat, to use as a handle on a sgian dubh, but the shepherd always refused. However, one day, the shepherd caught a he-goat, killed it and obtained a horn for Donnchadh. The two of them went to the smith to have a knife made. The smith refused payment, asking instead for Donnchadh to compose a poem for him. The contributor recites the verse and explains some of the vocabulary.
