Summary

The event that inspired the Barvas Bard to write 'Òran na Lice'.

The contributor's brother was Donald MacDonald, the Barvas Bard. He was an apprentice to a blacksmith in Beauly. One day, there was something wrong with the fire in the smithy and the blacksmith asked Donald to fetch a gravestone from an old graveyard, which he did. That night Donald couldn't get any sleep due to a storm and as he lay awake he saw a man in the room – the ghost of the man whose grave he had taken the stone from. Donald promised to return the gravestone if the ghost would promise that Donald would never see another ghost. Donald would never tell anyone what the ghost said to him. He wrote two songs about the incident, one of which was 'Òran na Lice' [The Song of the Stone].
