Summary

Willie has trust in his steed to carry him over the clattering of Clyde's Waters. He asks the Clyde to let him cross safely and it can make a wreck of him when he returns. When he gets to Maggie's bower he asks admittance but she refuses. He bids her a sad farewell and turns back. He goes over the high hills but the roaring of the Clyde is frightening. When he steps in the Clyde the wind blows his hat off and in trying to reach it he falls in. His brother arrives and tells him to catch his stallion's head but he says it is useless as Maggie refused to let him in. Maggie comes over the high hills and finds his body and begs forgiveness.
