Summary

Some of the tunes used for the dances that used to be popular in Kirkcudbrightshire.

Robbie Murray played 'Lyons Standard' for quadrilles. He whistles a snatch. The last tune for the quadrilles could be anything, but often was 'The Irish Washerwoman'. There was a set of tunes for the lancers too. Quadrilles were still being danced at the time of Second World War. There were popular dances at Carsphairn. They usually started with the Circassian Circle and finished with a waltz or waltz cotillion. The tune for the latter was 'Come owre the Stream, Chairlie'.
