Summary
Hugh Gordon Munro of New South Wales was inspired to write poetry by his father, who recited the poems of Sir Walter Scott.
Hugh Gordon Munro's father was very keen on the poetry of Sir Walter Scott, especially 'The Lady of The Lake', 'Marmion', and 'The Lord of the Isles'. When Mr Munro was a boy and travelling with his father in the buggy, his father would recite poetry for hours. Their head stockman, Thomas Dickson, also had a great memory for poetry. Mr Munro recites a brief fragment of a poem by Adam Lindsay Gordon. Mr Munro composes poems himself.
