Silly Willy, dog's dirt, shappit tatties [mashed potatoes] i da kirk [church],
When the kirk began to faa, Silly Willy ran awa.
The following goes back to the time when Lerwick was full of Dutch boats:
Dutchie, Dutchie dinna tak me,
Tak wir Baabie an dip her i da sea.
The following is common in different versions:
Row da boats o maelie [?], shippin on der sailie,
Row fast, row strong an brak da boats at winna ging.
The following warning is given by a bird to anyone who might take her eggs:
Melishon [malison, curse], melishon be upa dee at taks my young afore dey flee.
The following is directed at tale tellers:
Clash-pie [telltale], clash-pie sit upon a tree,
Ding doon epples een, twa, three,
One to the lady and one to the gentleman,
And one to the clash-pie at telled upo me.
