Summary
William Robertson proposed marriage the first time he met his future wife and they were married immediately.
When William Robertson, Stanley's father, was on leave from the army just after the end of the First World War, he visited his mother's house in the Gallowgate. Stanley's Granny Beck and his mother, then aged seventeen, were there. William took one look at the girl and suggested marriage. They obtained a licence and married immediately. Stanley's father told him this. At that time William was considered a catch, being Big Maria's son. They were together for over 50 years and had a big family. For all his faults, Stanley's mother would not have changed his father.
