A girl nearly becomes the wife of the Devil.
A widower's daughter would never go out anywhere. Her father persuaded her to go to a dance, where she met a young man. She went to dance with him again the following Saturday, and he persuaded her to marry him. He said he would come back for her in a year when he had finished his studies. But as he was leaving, she noticed his cloven foot: it was the Devil. She told her father and the minister. She went to church on the night he was due to return, and the minister stood in the way reading the Bible. The Devil roared for his wife, and the minister told him to come and get her. He turned into a ball of fire, taking half of the church with him.
