A dead man seen on the way home from the funeral.
Alec Stewart got to know an old man while travelling in Ireland. He would visit him every night and listen to his stories. He sat with him overnight during his last illness. The old man died the next day, and Alec was the last person he asked for. Alec went to the wake and they sat up for three nights. He had a couple of bottles of stout after the funeral, and went to another mourner's house for dinner. He passed the dead man's house on the way home to his caravan, and saw him standing at the gate, looking towards Alec. Alec pulled his bonnet down over his eyes and ran past. He knew the old man by his bonnet and two sticks. This was about 30 years ago.
