Summary
The clearance of Grulin.
Grulin was part of Laig estate and home to fourteen families, including the contributor's grandfather. A Borders farmer named Stewart took over the land and offered to pay the proprietor a high rent if he evicted the Grulin crofters. He did so and everyone except the contributor's grandfather and one other man emigrated to North America. His grandfather got a croft in Cleadale from his father-in-law, which the contributor still occupies [in 1964]. The farmer put sheep on the land, which was so fertile that every ewe had twin lambs.
