Summary
How the Laird of Coll acquired the Isle of Rum.
The contributor can recite his patronymic back nine generations on his mother's side to the Pìobaire Mòr, who was a MacQuarrie from Rum. The Laird of Coll had a beautiful ship. Clanranald admired the ship greatly and offered the Laird of Coll the Isle of Rum in exchange for it. The laird agreed. After a year the ship was brought ashore to be tarred and every plank of wood was found to be rotten.
