Summary
The man in this song explains how he nearly joined the army because of how bad the fishing was one particular year. They went far out to sea in bad weather but had to head for the mainland because the sea was so rough. When they reached the mainland the crew got paid and went on a drinking spree. They then went on the train to Aberdeen, describing it as the 'iron horse'.
