Summary

A widow given advice by an old man when her son was ill.

A widow's son was ill. An old man asked her if she had seen any strange people around lately. She told him that she had seen an odd-looking wee man on two occasions who enquired how her son was. The first time, when she told him that he was ill, the old man said, "Ill may he be." The second time, when she said that he was no better, the old man said, "No better may he be." The old man told her to say to him the next time that her son was better. She did this and the wee man replied, "Better may he be." When she got home her son was better.
