Summary
Buchan farmservants' breakfast and morning routine in the 1920s.
Buchan farmservants had brose for breakfast, as porridge took too long to make. The brose was taken with cream. Then there was tea, bread [i.e. oatcakes] and a scone with syrup. Except at harvest time, there was nothing to eat or drink between breakfast at 6.00 and 12.00. The foreman set his watch by the grandfather clock in the farmhouse and the men set their watches by his. The farmer came out at yoking time and gave out the work for the day. Mr Reid quotes from 'Drumdelgie' and translates.
