Summary - How the Tangusdale witches brought back the herring.
One year the herring were scarce around Barra. The Tangusdale witches ('gòiseagan') heard about this and they used witchcraft to draw the herring from Mull to Barra. The fishermen caught plenty. After a time the herring grew scarce once more. This time, the Tangusdale witches went out on the boats and met up with the Mull witches ('doideagan'). They had a battle and the Tangusdale witches won. Fish have been plentiful around Barra ever since.
