The contributor's father and grandfather were blacksmiths. The contributor was a blacksmith for 50 years. His grandfather, along with his brothers and sisters, bought the smithy and he came from Ardnamurchan to work there in 1843. He started working for a man named MacPhedran at the age of thirteen. One day he saw a little girl crying because she was lost and he took her home. He went away to the Lowlands to work, but he returned and eventually he married this girl.
