Summary

Bringing peats home to Berneray.

When the contributor was younger, peats were cut on the islands near to Berneray and people would go over on boats whenever they needed a bag of peats. People did not bring all the peats home in the summer. A man called Dòmhnall Chaluim sailed the boat and the contributor would help him. She was as good as any man at raising the sail. There was a special type of boat used for transporting the peats. The contributor's grandfather, Ruairidh mac Ailein, built them at one time.
