Alasdair mac Mhaighstir Alasdair said to Duncan Bàn MacIntyre that he must have a beautiful wife, for she is so described in a song that he composed about her. Duncan Bàn invited him to go to Edinburgh so that he could see for himself. Alasdair went to Duncan Bàn's house in Edinburgh and an ugly old lady answered the door. Alasdair said that Duncan Bàn was liar, for he had never seen such an ugly old lady in all his life. Duncan Bàn replied: "You have not seen her with my eyes."
