Summary
Vessels wrecked on the Jura coast.
An account of vessels which were wrecked on the Jura coast:
'British Queen', c.1854: she was smashed at a place still called 'Banca a' Bhritish Queen'. The laird of Ardlussa bought most of the cargo of wood and used it to build houses there.
'Culzean': went aground on rocks at Lagg. Everyone was drowned. This happened about a 100 years ago [said in 1971].
Another vessel with a cargo of flour was wrecked c.1845.
A Latvian boat was driven onto the rocks at Belnahua in 1934-35. An Islay lifeboat rescued nine people from the rock.
