Summary
The year of the potato blight.
Crops of potato and oats failed in the year of the potato blight. There was hardly any food in the Highlands. Jura was not as badly hit as other places. The government gave a certain amount of meal. At one stage, the demand for it was so great that a Glasgow merchant who distributed it mixed it with sawdust. He was found out.
