Summary
Herding the cattle.
It was usually a young boy just out of school who was employed to take care of the milking cows. During the summer, they were taken away from the village and the crops every morning at about 5 a.m. They were then brought home in the evening to be milked. He received ten shillings a week.
The act of keeping animals out of the crops at night was known as 'cuairtearachd'.
