Summary

The young noblewoman is courted by several knights but is in love with a ploughman. They stage a fight in which the ploughman bests them, but her brother stabs him in the back. She meets her brother and tells him she dreamt that she pulled a red rose and he tells her it means her lover is lying dead. Grief-stricken she goes to where his body lies, ties her long hair round him and carries him home. Her father promises her a better match but she says there can be none.
