Wooden tongue: a cattle disease caused by an insect which laid eggs in the mouth.
'Stùrd': caused by lack of magnesium.
Trembling: common in cattle and sheep. Cured by blood-letting, using a special knife.
Red water: beasts brought into the island were prone to this. Salt was given as a cure.
Other ailments mentioned are husk, fluke, blindness, and swollen glands.
