Summary

Discussion about superstitions and some people who encountered fairies.

The contributor talks about superstitions people had in days gone by. People believed that items such as steel pins had a certain power. Meal or tobacco in one's pocket was reputed to keep fairies from stealing a person. He tells of a little girl who was in the house when two fairy women came in. One of them touched her head and from that day on she was mentally incapacitated. There was another man who happened upon a fairy woman washing clothes in a stream. She told him she was washing the clothes of the dead. He met her on many occasions after that, but he always kept some tobacco in his pocket.
