Summary

Explanation of the Shetland place-name Feplar.

When a visiting Danish expert broadcast on Radio Shetland that he would be open to questions, Geordie Gear phoned in about several place-names that were without explanation, including Feplar in Nesting.

The professor speculated that Feplar was an early Viking name for a small Pictish settlement. There are indeed remains of several small, Neolithic roundhouses there. Shetland is very rich in archaeological remains.
